Eigenvalues for Waveguides Containing Re-Entrant Corners by a Finite-Element Method with Superelements
نویسندگان
چکیده
Superelements have been developed to enable the finite-element method to be used for computing accurate eigenvalues of the Laplacian over domains containing re-entrant corners of arbitrary angle. A truncated asymptotic expansion of the solution is employed in the region of the corner, and linear blending is used over the remainder of the superelement to provide a smooth transition to piecewise quadratics over the superelement boundary. The superelement thus conforms with the usual triangular or quadrilateral isoparametric elements used over the remainder of the domain, and can be easily incorporated into a general finite-element program. The scheme has been tested on various waveguides containing one or more angles of size 3 2 or 2 , and also on domains containing various other angles, and the results agree well with those obtained by other methods, mostly of less general applicability.

A framework of verified eigenvalue bounds for self-adjoint differential operators
For eigenvalue problems of self-adjoint differential operators, a universal framework is proposed to give explicit lower and upper bounds for the eigenvalues. In the case of the Laplacian operator, by applying Crouzeix–Raviart finite elements, an efficient algorithm is developed to bound the eigenvalues for the Laplacian defined in 1D, 2D and 3D spaces. Moreover, for nonconvex domains, for whic...
متن کاملOptimal-order Nonnested Multigrid Methods for Solving Finite Element Equations Ii: on Non-quasi-uniform Meshes
Nonnested multigrid methods are proved to be optimal-order solvers for finite element equations arising from elliptic problems in the presence of singularities caused by re-entrant corners and abrupt changes in the boundary conditions, where the multilevel grids are appropriately refined near singularities and are not necessarily nested. Therefore, optimal and realistic finer grids (compared wi...
متن کاملExperimental Determination of Local Structural Stiffness by Disassembly of Measured Flexibility Matrices
A new method is presented for identifying the local stiffness of a structure from vibration test data. The method is based on a projection of the experimentally measured flexibility matrix onto the strain energy distribution in local elements or regional superelements. Using both a presumed connectivity and a presumed strain energy distribution pattern, the method forms a well-determined linear...
متن کاملNested Newton Strategies for Energy-Corrected Finite Element Methods
Energy-corrected finite element methods provide an attractive technique to deal with elliptic problems in domains with re-entrant corners. Optimal convergence rates in weighted L2-norms can be fully recovered by a local modification of the stiffness matrix at the re-entrant corner, and no pollution effect occurs. Although the existence of optimal correction factors is established, it remains op...
